It is truly fascinating the way we both idolize and fear iconic monster movie creatures. First of all, Xenomorphs are literal nightmares come to life. However, I’ve never seen a more badass creature design. Fans of Nightmare On Elm Street and Friday the 13th are largely the same target demographic as the victims preyed on by Freddy Kreuger and Jason Vorhees. Godzilla originally destroyed cities. Fans, however, loved the creature so much that it quickly became a defender of earth against OTHER monsters.
A good monster movie invokes a sense of fun, fear, and energy. Classic Universal Movie Monster creatures like Dracula and Frankenstein’s Monster strike fear into our inner child. Similarly, the gum-chewing, gun-toting aliens from Mars Attacks! harken back to the golden days of film (albeit tongue-in-cheek).
Ultimately, we all love a good creature design. Beyond this, we all love a good design. For this reason, professional designer Ian Jepson decided to use his amazing illustration skills to express his love of iconic movie creatures. After all, his professional work screams of vintage monster movie influence.
In two different poster series’, Jepson created stunning illustrations of his favorite monster movie creatures. His Monster Portrait Series includes some amazing pop art illustrations of quintessential movie monsters. In addition, his Monster Poster Series is comprised of three fully-fledged poster designs. By and large, these designs go above and beyond any official designs ever created by the movie studios (namely, the Monster Poster Series).
Impressively, Ian Jepson created custom logo designs for each poster. Furthermore, Jepson utilized his amazing ability to create a retro design atmosphere. These posters feature vintage texturing, pop-art shading and vibrant color schemes. Enjoy these gorgeous designs!
