California artist Devin Doty shows off his love and passion for the latest episode of the Star Wars saga with his series of The Last Jedi illustrations. However, not every passionate Star Wars fan had a love for Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
It has been six months since the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Since the film’s December 2017 theatrical premiere, a rift has divided the Star Wars fanbase. As seen on Rotten Tomatoes, critics almost universally praised the film. However, general audiences found themselves split between loving and hating it.
Whether you agreed with the film’s creative decisions or not, one thing is sure: The Last Jedi made an impact. It indeed was the spark that lit the fire for the Star Wars universe. The film’s bold direction spawned firey conversations, heated arguments, and spicy memes.
Fans still discuss the content of the film, and they show no signs of stopping. Star Wars fans are nothing, if not passionate. This passion manifests itself in many ways, from spirited debates to well-developed fan theories to beautifully-designed fan art.
Devin Doty chose to let his Star Wars love manifest itself through a series of The Last Jedi illustrations. Regardless of the recent inner turmoil amidst Star Wars fans, the film series continues to inspire creativity across the galaxy.
Say what you want about the film itself, but you cannot deny the beauty of these illustrations. The detail in the stylized shading and highlights are perfectly juxtaposed with a simple, smooth backdrop. The design style is reminiscent of propaganda posters.
Additionally, the halftone dots on the clothing creates a subtle variation in texture. The smooth gradients and striking portraiture compliment each other well, making for a pretty impressive poster series.
The use of character quotes and alliance symbols tie the entire project together. Let’s take a closer look at this inspirational illustrations!
