Superhero movies and television shows have become a cornerstone for entertainment in the 21st century. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is gearing up for it’s fourth phase with 19 movies being released to-date.
Similarly, the DC “Arrowverse” has taken television by storm over the past 5 years, gaining a legion of devoted fans across four television shows and three web shows. Consequently, new superhero movies and TV shows are given the green light every day.
However, this recent groundswell of super shows comic cinema isn’t the first time superheroes have broken into the mainstream. Throughout the decades, television shows like Batman (1966), Wonder Woman (1975), and Incredible Hulk (1977) brought vigilante justice, warrior goddesses, and superhuman strength to our living rooms.
While some superheroes found their homes on television, others like Superman (1978), Robocop (1987), and Batman Returns (1992) brought alien protectors, cyborg policemen, and Danny DeVito as a human/penguin hybrid to the silver screen.
These superhero spectacles give audiences awe-inspiring stories and extraordinary characters to appreciate and obsess over.
Because of these fantastic obsessions, die-hard fans will inevitably start to compare and contrast their favorite movies and TV shows. As a result, many fans often dream about fantasy fights and interactions between heroes from different universes.
Who would win in a one-on-one fight: Thor or Superman? Would Barry Allen and Peter Parker befriend each other or annoy one another? What if the cast of the unreleased Fantastic Four (1994) were involved in the quarrel in Captain America: Civil War (2016)? It’s hard not to daydream about these fantasy scenarios.
Although, For artist Gianfranco Gallo, it wasn’t enough just to dream. He wanted to make these fantasies a reality.
Using Adobe Photoshop and a Wacom Intous, Gallo merged the past, present, and future in a series of world-colliding images on Behance.
